Illinois's 19th congressional district
Illinois's 19th congressional district was a former district in the state. Created in 1870 and active from 1873 until 2013, it was eliminated after the 2010 census because Illinois grew more slowly than many other states. In its final form, the district covered a large rural area of southern Illinois, parts of Springfield, and a portion of the Metro-East area near St. Louis. The last representative was Republican John Shimkus, who was redrawn into the 15th district. The district leaned Republican, with a Cook Partisan Voting Index of R+9.
