Igor Sergeenko
Igor Petrovich Sergeenko (born 14 January 1963) is a Belarusian politician who has served as speaker of the House of Representatives since March 2024, succeeding Vladimir Andreichenko. He was born in Stolitsa, in the Vitebsk Region of the Belarusian SSR. He graduated from Belarusian State University in 1984 and from the Presidential Academy of Public Administration in 2006. After serving in the Soviet Army (1984–1986), he worked at Vitebsk State Medical Institute and then joined the KGB in 1989. He led the Mogilev regional KGB directorate (2010–2013) and then became First Deputy Chairman of the KGB (2013–2019). From 2019 to 2024 he was Head of the Presidential Administration of Belarus. He holds the rank of Major General. He has said he would focus on rural issues as speaker. Sergeenko has been sanctioned by the European Union after the 2010 election and by several countries after the 2020 election.
