Igli Cara
Igli Cara (born 16 March 1969 in Durrës) is an Albanian politician and a candidate for mayor of Durrës with the Democratic Party. He is married and has two children.
Cara studied biochemistry at the University of Tirana (1987–1992) after finishing secondary school in Durrës. He briefly taught, then worked for the Financial Police as a group manager near the Anti-Smuggling Sector. From 1994 to 2009 he worked in the private sector at a Customs Agency and led the Association of Customs Agents for several years.
He has held several public roles: member of the Durrës City Council (2007–2009) and Chairman of the Housing Committee; head of the Durrës Chamber of Commerce and Industry (2005–2009); and Deputy in the Albanian Parliament (2009–2017), serving on the Economy and Finance Committee. He has remained active in the Democratic Party, including a stint on the party’s National Council, and was elected Chairman of the Durrës branch in 2009 and again in 2022. He resigned that post in December 2022 after being chosen as the mayoral candidate. He won the party’s primary for Mayor of Durrës on December 4, 2022, with 1,398 votes out of 1,697, defeating Armand Dervishi.
