Hypochaeris glabra
Hypochaeris glabra, commonly called smooth cat's ear, is a flowering plant in the daisy family. It is native to Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, but it has spread to many other parts of the world and is often a weed. It can be found in Africa, southern and southeastern Asia, Australia, and the Americas, especially California.
It is an annual herb with a small taproot, a rosette of leaves at the base, and one or more thin stems 10–40 cm tall. Leaves are 2–10 cm long, smooth-edged or with small lobes, and green (sometimes with a purplish tint near the veins). The flower heads sit on top of the stems and have yellow ray florets with small purple-tipped outer parts. The fruit is a cylindrical achene with a white pappus about 1 cm long.
