House of Viseh

House of Viseh is the main Turanian clan in Shahnameh and Persian mythology. They descend from Tur, who is the father of Zadashm and the grandfather of Viseh. Viseh is the leading member of the clan.

Viseh has six sons: Houman, Barman, Nastihan, Lahhak, Farshidvard, and Piran. Piran is the king of Khotan and the minister to Afrasiab, the king of Turan. Houman is the top commander of the Turanian army.

The Viseh clan is distinct from Afrasiab’s family in Shahnameh. Viseh is a powerful figure in the Visehgan dynasty and serves as a minister under the Pashang. In the Iran-Turan wars, Viseh and Afrasiab fight together. The Vishu and Afrasiab tribes seem to be closely related—like the same people, but as two separate tribes.

All members of the Viseh clan are said to have been killed in the Battle of Davazdah Rokh, a defeat that signaled the decline of Turan. In Avesta, the House of Viseh is said to be eliminated by the House of Nowzar, but in Shahnameh it is the House of Goudarz that eliminates this clan.
