Hostage Aid Worldwide
Hostage Aid Worldwide is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., founded in 2020 by former hostages, affected families, and experts. Its mission is to help release current hostages and prevent future hostage-taking, while also providing humanitarian aid to those detained or affected.
The group works with technology professionals to study and disrupt the systems that enable hostage-taking. It has developed an AI-based tracking tool to assist governments, nonprofits, advocates, and families in countering hostage-taking. The board includes former hostages such as Nizar Zakka (president), Masih Alinejad, Siamak Namazi, and Dr. Shoshan Haran. The organization has been active in ongoing cases, including hostages abducted by Hamas on October 7, 2023, and the case of U.S. journalist Austin Tice.
