Home, Like Noplace Is There is the second studio album by The Hotelier. It was released on February 25, 2014. The music blends indie rock, punk, and emo pop-punk and lasts about 36 minutes. It was released by Tiny Engines. The band has said the songs deal with dark topics, including complicated and sometimes toxic relationships, but also focus on personal growth and transformation. The album received widespread critical praise and helped The Hotelier gain attention in the emo revival scene. They promoted it with tours, including supporting Modern Baseball, co-headlining with Foxing (with Prawn and Little Big League on some dates), and supporting The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die and The Get Up Kids. They also did their own headlining tour with Runaway Brother, Oso Oso, and The Spirit of the Beehive.
Critics loved it. Metacritic gave it 91/100. AllMusic called it a beautiful blur of raw feelings and strong hooks. Sputnikmusic praised how it fits listeners’ fears and struggles and can be a helping hand. Pitchfork said the band is tearing the building down but building something monumental.
The album appeared on many year-end lists. Sputnikmusic’s staff placed it high on their 2014 list, AbsolutePunk put it at the top of their 2014 list, and Spin ranked it number one on their 2017 list of the 30 Best Emo Revival Albums, Ranked. The album is widely seen as a standout in the emo revival movement.
