Dewey Beach is a small coastal town in eastern Sussex County, Delaware, with about 350 residents. The town is very short and narrow—roughly one mile long and two blocks wide—situated between the Atlantic Ocean and Rehoboth Bay. It’s part of the Cape Region near Rehoboth Beach.

History and name
- The town was renamed after Admiral George Dewey following the Spanish-American War and was incorporated in 1981. Earlier maps sometimes called the area Rehoboth City.
- A historic lifesaving station, first built in 1878, later became part of the Coast Guard and now has a replica in town.

Water quality and climate
- In 2011, Dewey Beach earned a 5-Star water quality rating from the NRDC, a mark shared with only a few places nationwide.
- The area has hot, humid summers and mild winters (humid subtropical climate).

Main roads and transportation
- Delaware Route 1 (Coastal Highway) is the town’s main north–south road. Route 1A heads north into Rehoboth Beach.
- Parking is regulated by meters or permits from May 15 to September 15.
- In summer, DART First State runs Route 208 (Beach Bus) to Rehoboth Park & Ride and Lewes, with connections to Ocean City, Maryland.
- The Jolly Trolley provides frequent local service in summer, with weekend service in the shoulder seasons.
- BestBus offers weekend intercity service from Washington, D.C., and New York City in the summer.
- Cape Water Tours & Taxi runs a summer water taxi from Lewes to Dewey Beach on Friday evenings.

Services and economy
- Electricity is provided by Delmarva Power. Water and sewer are managed by town districts. Trash and recycling are handled by Waste Industries.
- Dewey Beach is a popular summer destination with many bars, restaurants, hotels, and rentals along Coastal Highway. It also attracts families for its beaches and lodging options.

Notable events and activities
- The town hosts the Dewey Beach Music Conference in late September.
- Greyhounds Reach The Beach, a gathering for rescued greyhounds and their owners, happens each Columbus Day weekend.
- The East Coast Skimboarding Championships take place in mid-August.
- Senior Week brings recent graduates to town in June. Dewey Beach is known as a skimboarding hotspot and has been part of the United Skim Tour since 2013.

Education
- Dewey Beach is part of the Cape Henlopen School District, which serves Rehoboth Elementary School and Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes.
