Hippos Stadium
Hippos Stadium is a pesäpallo stadium in Jyväskylä, Finland. It opened in 1948 and has long been the home field of Jyväskylän Kiri (Ykköspesis) and, since 2005, Kirittäret (Superpesis).
Pesäpallo moved to Hippos in 1968 after the Finnish Pesäpallo Association changed rules banning championship matches on grass. The venue was renovated in 1994 and 2014 and rebuilt in 2023. The new Hippos Stadium opened with a ceremony in July 2023, part of an 8.2 million euro project that slightly exceeded its budget.
Capacity and seating are around 4,500 spectators, with about 1,850 covered seats and just over 1,500 actual seats; more stands could bring capacity above 4,000. The stadium also offers accessible seating and a hearing loop for the hard of hearing.
Record attendance at Hippos (the old stadium) was 5,496 in 1979 for a Jyväskylän Kiri final against Hyvinkään Tahko.
The East–West Pesäpallo All-Star game has been hosted at Hippos four times (1949, 1977, 1980 and 2024). The 2024 East–West weekend drew about 14,100 spectators and included elections to the Pesäpallo Hall of Fame.
