Hero Hiralal
Hero Hiralal is a 1988 Hindi film directed by Ketan Mehta. It stars Naseeruddin Shah and Sanjana Kapoor as an auto-rickshaw driver and a rising film actress who fall in love. Saeed Jaffrey and Satish Shah play supporting roles. The movie is adapted from the one-act play Apghat Kare Chee by Naushil Mehta.
Plot: In Hyderabad, Hero, an auto-rickshaw driver, meets Roopa, a budding Bollywood star, and becomes her guide. They fall in love, but Roopa’s family disapproves and pushes her to focus on her career. Heartbroken, Hero tries to commit suicide but is saved by Rani Sitara Devi, a showgirl who arranges for him to die in a grand show as a dramatic gesture. Roopa arrives at the last moment and confesses her love.
Music: Babla Shah composed the music, with lyrics by Hriday Lani. Songs are sung by Lata Mangeshkar, Amit Kumar, Kanchan, Mahendra Kapoor, Suresh Wadkar and Kumar Sanu.
