Hermann Hassler
Hermann Hassler (30 March 1941 – 19 December 2013) was a Liechtenstein cabaret performer and politician. He served as the mayor of Schellenberg from 1972 to 1979 and later as a member of the Landtag of Liechtenstein from 1978 to 1993, representing the Patriotic Union. In the Landtag he worked on the finance, state and foreign affairs committees and was the Patriotic Union’s spokesman from 1986 to 1989.
Hassler was born in Schellenberg, the son of Alois Hassler and Hermina Meier. He trained as a mechanical draftsman at Hilti (1957–1961) and then worked as a graphic designer in Vaduz (1962–1979). He also served on Schellenberg’s municipal council (1969–1972). Besides politics, he was a cabaret performer and was involved with TAK Theater Liechtenstein. He chaired the office for stamp design and led the Liechtenstein postal museum from 1979 to 2005, and wrote about philately. He opposed the 2003 constitutional referendum along with other former lawmakers. He married Christina Lampert in 1968, and they had two children. He died of heart failure in Schellenberg in 2013 at age 72.
