Urgent (film)
Urgent (Arabic: طفح الكيل) is a 2018 Moroccan drama film written and directed by Mohcine Besri. The 85-minute movie is in Arabic and stars Rachid Mustafa, Fatima Zahra Bennacer, Said Bey, Youssef Al-Alaoui, Ghalia Bin Zawia and Younes Bouab. Producers are Elisa Garbar, Lamia Chraibi and Michel Merkt.
The film highlights the dark side of Morocco’s public hospitals, showing bribery, neglect, overcrowding and fragile care, and the suffering of patients. The story follows Idris and his wife Zahra as they struggle to pay for their sick son’s operation. Idris’ brother Hussain offers money he expects to receive from a Swiss couple who plan to adopt his future child.
Urgent premiered at the 2018 Marrakech International Film Festival, and later screened at the Palm Springs International Film Festival and the Tangier National Film Festival in 2019. It won the Al Husseiny Abou-Deif Prize for Best Freedom Film at the Luxor African Film Festival and received six nominations at the 15th Africa Movie Academy Awards.
