The Heide Express, meaning “Heath Express,” is the name used by the Lüneburg Transport Society (AVL) to promote special trips with its historic trains on the East Hanoverian Railways (OHE) network in northern Germany. Besides running trains, the society holds presentations, model railway swap meets, film screenings and exhibitions, usually in Lüneburg, with accompanying excursions.

Today the Heide Express runs on OHE lines around Lüneburg, Winsen, Soltau, Celle and Walsrode. Services are irregular—several times a year, especially in summer for special occasions. There are no regular weekend services like the Moor Express.

Routes and rolling stock: In cooperation with other societies, AVL trains are used for special journeys on other lines and are a regular sight in the Hamburg region. The rolling stock is used in various combinations. The trains are mainly hauled by V46-01 (from Lüneburg) or DL 0601 (from Winsen) and pulled by rakes of Umbauwagen and platform coaches, or they may use the GDT 0518 railbus. Some trips use locomotives owned by the East Hanoverian Railways, especially in the Celle area.
