Harry Maslin is an American record producer, recording and mixing engineer, and studio owner. In the mid-1970s he engineered No. 1 hits for Barry Manilow with Mandy and for Warwick & The Spinners with Then Came You. As a producer, he helped David Bowie score US hits with Fame (No. 1) and Golden Years, and he produced seven Air Supply songs in a row from 1980 to 1982, including The One That You Love (No. 1).

Maslin was born in Philadelphia. He began by mixing live sound at the Electric Factory in the 1960s for many famous acts, such as Cream and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. He started recording at Regent Sound Studios in Philadelphia and later moved to Regent’s New York facility, where he learned about studio design, disc cutting, recording, and mixing.

After two years at Regent, he joined the Hit Factory Recording Studios as chief recording engineer. There he worked on projects for James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, Carly Simon, Barry Manilow, and Dionne Warwick & The Spinners. He contributed to Manilow II, Warwick & The Spinners’ Then Came You, Carly Simon’s Hotcakes and Mockingbird.

He then moved to the Record Plant and recorded for David Bowie, including a Bowie–Lennon collaboration album. In January 1975 at Electric Lady studios, Maslin oversaw the recording of Fame with Lennon guest vocals and a cover of Across the Universe, helping complete Bowie’s Young Americans. He produced Station to Station (1976) in Los Angeles, which included Golden Years and TVC15.

Maslin returned to the Hit Factory, producing two Bay City Rollers albums, Melissa Manchester’s Don’t Cry Out Loud, and an album for Eric Carmen. He then produced Air Supply’s first album and two more multi-platinum albums, featuring five Top 5 singles such as The One That You Love.

In 1983 Maslin opened Image Recording Studios in Hollywood. He focused on studio management and consulting, while Image hosted many famous artists and contributed to film music for Lethal Weapon and The Hunt for Red October. He also worked on tracks for Jennifer Warren, Leonard Cohen, and Michael Jackson’s HIStory.

Image Recording closed in 2005. Maslin built a digital Pro Tools studio for himself and his wife, Emmy-winning songwriter and producer Michèle Vice-Maslin, who runs Sweetersongs. In 2008 he worked again with David Bowie on mixing and re-mixing. He is married to Michèle Vice-Maslin.
