SatuSehat, formerly PeduliLindungi, is Indonesia’s national health data platform. It was built by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, with partners including KPCPEN, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises, and Telkom Indonesia. The platform helps health providers and the government share data and lets people access their own electronic medical records.

The app started as Indonesia’s official COVID-19 contact tracing tool and was originally called TraceTogether, but was renamed to avoid confusion with Singapore’s app.

On August 23, 2021, the government encouraged making the app mandatory for using public transport and entering places like malls, factories, and sporting venues. People who had received at least one vaccine dose could download a vaccine card and vaccination certificate in the app.

In December 2022, with the end of the PPKM rules, the government said the app would no longer be a mandatory requirement starting January 1, 2023.

On September 7, 2022, officials said the app would be transformed into a citizen health app. On February 28, 2023, it was rebranded as SATUSEHAT Mobile, with instructions for existing users to update the app and re-sync their COVID-19 health data. The goal is to make it an all-in-one health service and records app for Indonesians.

The app requires broad permissions, including access to the phone’s files, media, GPS, and location, which can drain the battery. If location is turned off or permissions are restricted, the app may not work properly. In September 2021, personal data of about 1.3 million Indonesians leaked online, including the president’s vaccine certificate; the leak also affected the eHAC system used for air travel.
