Haluk Kırcı
Haluk Kırcı (born 1958) is a Turkish ultra-nationalist militant nicknamed "Idi Amin." He became known for his role in the Bahçelievler massacre and for the assassination of Public Deputy Prosecutor Doğan Öz.
Born in Erzurum, he was part of the Grey Wolves, a far-right group. He was wanted for Doğan Öz’s murder on 24 March 1978 and for the Bahçelievler massacre on 9 October 1978, when seven student members of the Worker's Party of Turkey (TİP) were killed by strangling. He was captured in Istanbul on 8 September 1978 with a fake ID and brought to Ankara.
In 1986, he asked the Public Prosecution to benefit from Act 3419 and admitted responsibility for Bahçelievler in his testimony, but provided no new information. He received seven death sentences, but as a right-wing militant these were not carried out; they were converted to ten years in prison for each murder. By contrast, left-wing militant Erdal Eren was executed a few years earlier for a murder he was accused of, despite being 17 at the time.
On 16 July 1989, Kırcı tried to escape from Bursa Prison using a fake ID named Ali Ekinci during an open visit. He was conditionally released on 26 April 1991. In 1991, intelligence suggested he might go to Germany to join the administration of the Turkish Federation. He has strong influence among ultra-nationalist circles and ties to senior figures in the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP). He was released from prison again on 28 May 2010.
