Habitat for Humanity Ireland is a nonprofit organisation that helps bring people together to build homes, strengthen communities and give hope to families.

Interest in the work started in early 2001 when a group from Dublin, including church and housing groups, began exploring Habitat’s projects. In June 2002 they travelled to Durban, South Africa for the Jimmy Carter Work Project to see Habitat’s work firsthand. After returning, they formed a steering group and began the process to affiliate with Habitat for Humanity International. In November 2002, Habitat’s founder met Ireland’s President Mary McAleese at Áras an Uachtaráin, and on the same day the international board approved the formation of Habitat for Humanity Ireland in Belfast.

Habitat for Humanity Ireland runs a local programme that works with Dublin local authorities and other organisations to build and renovate homes for low‑income families in Dublin.

In 2012 the Local Programme project took place in Inchicore, Dublin, and President Michael D. Higgins visited the site and the homeowner families in April. In 2014 Habitat renovated two properties in Dublin 1.
