If You Leave Me Now is a promotional single by Charlie Puth featuring Boyz II Men from the album Voicenotes, released on January 5, 2018. The track is an a cappella ballad that nods to 90s and 2000s pop by interpolating NSYNC’s I Thought She Knew from No Strings Attached, but it is not a cover of Chicago’s If You Leave Me Now. It even includes a line that echoes Chicago’s song to honor its legacy. Puth explained on Twitter that releasing the song was a way to make up for delaying the album, and he said the album would be coming soon. The song is in D major and shifts to E major after the bridge. Critics praised Puth’s falsetto and strong harmonies, the understated production, and the blend of modern R&B with a doo-wop vibe, along with the contribution from Boyz II Men.
