Hünengrab im Herbst
Hünengrab im Herbst is the first studio album by the German black metal band Nagelfar. It was recorded in September 1997 at Stage One Studios, produced by Andy Classen, and released in December 1997 by Kettenhund Records. The band mixes Northern black metal with their own rhythmic style and influences from their Teutonic thrash metal background. The vocals range from frantic screams to clean, heroic singing. The production gave a brutal yet true and strong sound for black metal, which many say helped make the album successful. The band wanted to move away from the Scandinavian sound of that time. The lyrics deal with mythology and the depths of the human soul. Critics praised the album as a major step for German black metal: Frank Stöver of Rock Hard noted surprising progress and suggested Nagelfar could rise to the top of the German scene, while Wolf-Rüdiger Mühlmann called it the most important German black metal album and ranked it 16th on Rock Hard’s list of the 25 most important black metal albums of all time.
