Gullballen, or the Golden Ball, is Norway’s yearly football award for the best male and female players. It’s given by the Norwegian Football Federation and replaced Kniksen of the Year as the prize for the nation’s top footballer in a calendar year. The first award was in 2014, won by Stefan Johansen. From 2014 to 2017 there was only one winner each year. In 2015 Ada Hegerberg became the first woman to win Gullballen. From 2018 onward the award is given to two players each year—one man and one woman. The prize has been handed out at Idrettsgallaen, the Norwegian sports awards, since 2015. The players with the most Gullballen wins are Erling Haaland, Ada Hegerberg, and Caroline Graham Hansen, with Haaland holding the most awards.
