24-methylenesterol C-methyltransferase
24-methylenesterol C-methyltransferase (EC 2.1.1.143) is an enzyme that transfers a methyl group from S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) to the substrate 24-methylenelophenol. The reaction produces S-adenosylhomocysteine and (Z)-24-ethylidenelophenol. It belongs to the transferase family, specifically methyltransferases that move one-carbon groups. Its systematic name is S-adenosyl-L-methionine:24-methylenelophenol C-methyltransferase. It is also known as SMT2. The enzyme participates in the biosynthesis of steroids.
