Greenwood is a private financial services company in Atlanta, started in 2020 by Andrew Young, Michael “Killer Mike” Render, and Ryan Glover. It aims to expand banking for communities of color and motivate bigger banks to do the same. By January 2021, Greenwood said about 500,000 people were interested in joining. Because demand was higher than expected, public access was delayed and began in early 2022. Greenwood offers its debit card and banking services through a partnership with Coastal Community Bank. In April 2021, Greenwood announced a MasterCard partnership to issue its first debit cards. On August 5, 2021, Greenwood launched Greenwood Studios to create financial education content for Black and Latino communities. On May 2, 2023, Greenwood acquired Kinly, a neobank focused on serving the Black community, with plans to integrate Kinly’s technology into Greenwood’s platform.
