Graham Campbell
Graham Fraser Campbell (22 July 1936 – 30 January 2022) was an Australian rules footballer and coach. He played 151 games for Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League from 1956 to 1964, kicking 154 goals. A rover and half-forward, his peak came in 1957 when he won Fitzroy’s best-and-fairest award, the Mitchell Medal. He was a steady goal-scorer and helped Fitzroy reach the 1960 Preliminary Final; he also played in the club’s night premiership teams in 1959 and 1978.
After playing, Campbell moved into coaching. He briefly served as Fitzroy’s caretaker coach in 1974, then coached West Perth to the 1975 WAFL premiership. He returned to Fitzroy as senior coach in 1978, but the team finished outside the finals. He again coached West Perth from 1979 to 1981 without finals appearances.
In 1983 he went to Adelaide to coach Glenelg in the SANFL. Glenelg started the season poorly, briefly sacking him before reappointing him the next day. They recovered and finished mid-table; in 1984 they finished third, but he was not retained and was replaced by Graham Cornes. Campbell later worked as a television analyst in Adelaide.
Graham Campbell died in Adelaide after a long illness on 30 January 2022, aged 85.
