A Foggy Tale
A Foggy Tale (Chinese: 大濛) is a 2025 Taiwanese film directed by Chen Yu-hsun. Set in the 1950s during Taiwan’s White Terror, when the Kuomintang ruled under martial law, the story follows a young girl from Chiayi who travels north to recover her brother’s remains after he was executed for political reasons. Along the way she befriends a local soldier and a rickshaw driver. The dialogue is mainly in Taiwanese Hokkien.
The film stars Caitlin Fang, Will Or, and Joanne Tang (also known as 9m88). Veteran producers include Lee Lieh and Yeh Jufeng. A Foggy Tale opened the 2025 Golden Horse Film Festival in Chiayi. It earned 11 nominations at the Golden Horse Awards—the most of any film—that year and won four prizes: Best Narrative Film, Best Original Screenplay, Best Art Direction, and Best Makeup & Costume Design. The release date was November 13, 2025, at the Golden Horse Awards.
