Ramakrishnan Ramanathan, known as Ramu Ramanathan, is an Indian playwright and director born on 29 December 1967 in Calcutta (now Kolkata), West Bengal. He earned a B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Mumbai in 1988 and is married to Kinnari Vohra. Ramanathan has written several plays, including Mahadevbhai, Cotton 56, Polyester 84, Jazz, Comrade Kumbhakarna, and Postcards From Bardoli. He also edits PrintWeek and WhatPackaging? magazines and has spent about 30 years in the print industry. He has published three books: 3; Sakina Manzil And Other Plays (a collection of eight plays); and two poetry collections, My Encounters with a Peacock and To Sit on A Stone - And Other Shorts. Sakina Manzil And Other Plays was published by Orient Blackswan in collaboration with the English and Foreign Languages University. He has delivered lectures such as The Eleventh Dr. Ashok Da Ranade Memorial Lecture: 8 ½ Reasons Why We Need Playwrights Today, and has appeared in media pieces like Mumbai Local with Ramu Ramanathan: Voices of Dissent.
