Gove Building, Chennai
Gove Building, once Cuddon Building, is a historic brick structure on Chennai’s Anna Salai. Built in 1916 in the Indo-Saracenic style, it began as a car showroom for Simpson and Co, owned by George Cuddon, and was regarded as India’s finest showroom with luxury cars like Mercedes-Benz. In 1943 it was renamed after V. S. Thiruvengadaswamy Mudaliar of VST Motors, which has used the building ever since. The exterior remains largely untouched to preserve its heritage, with only minor interior changes. The two-storey building features a 90-foot-wide front, Italian marble floors, and 18-foot-long plate-glass windows with sun-blinds imported from England. By 2020 it housed a Mercedes-Benz showroom run by VST Titanium Motors, a subsidiary of VST Motors, in a 15,000 sq ft space.
