Gija language
Gija (also spelled Kija, Kitja, or Gidja) is an Australian Aboriginal language spoken in Western Australia. Most speakers live in the area from Halls Creek to Kununurra, extending west to Lansdowne and Tableland Stations. About 200 people spoke it in 2021. UNESCO classifies Gija as severely endangered. It is part of the Jarragan language family, a non-Pama-Nyungan group in the East Kimberley, and it uses the Latin alphabet. The Argyle Diamond Mine sits near the border of Gija and Miriwoong country, and Purnululu National Park (Boornoolooloo in Gija) lies mostly in Gija country. Dialects may have included Kuluwarrang and Walgi.
