Generationism

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

Generationism is the belief that one generation has inherent qualities that make it better or worse than another. It usually focuses on values, lifestyles, and beliefs rather than on objective facts. People may claim today’s generation is superior to earlier ones, or call older cultures primitive, though “primitive” can be confusing with primitivism. Sometimes an older generation’s dislike of younger people’s ways is also called generationism. In The Global Empire (2003), Swedish philosophers Alexander Bard and Jan Söderqvist say generationism is a close relative of racism and should be studied more to support ideas about relativism and pragmatism in philosophy.
