WKLB-FM
WKLB-FM, 102.5 MHz, known as Country 102.5, is a Boston-area country music radio station licensed to Waltham, Massachusetts, serving Greater Boston. It is owned by Beasley Broadcast Group. The station broadcasts in HD and offers an HD2 subchannel called NuTune Country, which features classic country music from the 1960s through the 1990s. WKLB-FM’s studios are in Waltham, and its transmitter sits in Needham on a shared tower with WBUR-FM and several TV stations. It also serves as an overflow station for the Boston Bruins radio network.
History in brief: The 102.5 frequency began as WCRB-FM in 1954, the classical music FM sister to WCRB (AM). Over the years the station changed call signs and formats, moving from classical to other formats before becoming WKLB on different frequencies. In 2006, Greater Media moved the WKLB country format to 102.5 after selling 99.5 to Nassau Broadcasting; Nassau took WCRB’s call letters. The first song on 102.5 as WKLB was Life Is a Highway by Rascal Flatts. In 2016, Beasley Broadcast Group acquired Greater Media. The station briefly rebranded as The New 102.5 in 2017 before returning to the Country 102.5 brand.
In 2024, longtime local host Carolyn Kruse retired after 31 years, and WKLB replaced its local morning show with The Andie Summers Show from sister station WXTU in Philadelphia.
