Jürg Marquard
Jürg Marquard (born 3 July 1945 in Zürich) is a Swiss businessman, publisher and TV personality. He has been the honorary consul of Hungary for Central Switzerland since 1995 and is one of Switzerland’s 300 wealthiest people, with an estimated fortune of about 500 million Swiss francs.
Early life and career
Marquard was the eldest of three sons of Ernst Marquard, a dentist, and Simone Marquard. His family has German roots. He decided not to go to college and instead became a publisher. With a loan of 1,000 Swiss francs, he started his first magazine, Pop, and also hosted the Swiss Hitparade on radio, earning the nickname “Mr. Hitparade.”
Publishing and television
He built a publishing empire. Pop merged with Rocky to form Pop/Rocky, which later joined with Popcorn as the umbrella brand for his youth magazine division. In 1981 he entered the German-language market with Cosmopolitan and expanded to Poland and Hungary. In 2005 he co-produced and starred in Traumjob, the Swiss version of The Apprentice, which drew high TV ratings. From 2019 to 2020 he invested in the Swiss version of Shark Tank, Höhle der Löwen (Schweiz) on 3plus, but stepped down for medical reasons and was succeeded by DJ Antoine. Since 2019 he has also pursued real estate around Lake Zurich, forming LMI Property AG with Inizia AG and Urs Ledermann.
Personal life
Marquard has been married three times and has five children. He and Rocio Marquard (married 1985) had a daughter, Aline; they later divorced. He then married Priscilla Ogilvie (1991) and later divorced. In 2008 he married Raquel Lehmann (formerly Gubser), with two stepchildren. He lives in Herrliberg on Lake Zurich and has maintained a high-profile residence at the La Tuor tower penthouse of the Badrutt’s Palace Hotel in St. Moritz for many years. He also owns a chalet in St. Moritz, a villa on Nevis in the Caribbean, and a 160-foot yacht named Azzurra II.
