IEEE 1849
IEEE 1849, also called the Extensible Event Stream (XES), is a standard that defines a single XML language for moving event data between systems. It covers both event logs and event streams, including large datasets used in process mining. The goal is to ensure that data exchanged between the producing system and the analyzing tools has clear syntax and meaning. The standard started as IEEE 1849-2016 and was updated in 2023 to IEEE 1849-2023, approved on June 5, 2023. Process mining studies how real processes run by analyzing event logs, which requires accurate and unambiguous data. This standard provides a widely accepted XML format to facilitate interoperability between information systems and analysis tools. IEEE 1849 is sponsored by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society and was the second IEEE standard it sponsored, after IEEE 1855.
