Gavin School District 37 is a public school district in Lake County, Illinois, about 40 miles north of Chicago. It serves Ingleside and nearby communities (Ingleside, Long Lake, Lake Villa, and Fox Lake) and runs two public schools in Ingleside: Gavin Central Elementary School (Pre-K to 4th grade) and Gavin South Middle School (5th to 8th grade). The district motto is Engage, Grow, Empower, and the district office is at 25775 W IL Hwy 134, Ingleside, IL 60041.
Administration and students: The superintendent is Dr. Scott Schwartz and the district board president is James Miller. About 890 students attend the two schools. There are 65 teachers (51 full-time equivalents) and 44 other staff, for a student-teacher ratio of 17.2 to 1. The district’s budget is $11,624,400. The colors are Yellow and Green, and the mascot is the Tiger. Transportation is provided with leased buses, and catering services are available at both schools.
Gavin South Middle School (grades 5–8) is led by principal J. Jurgaitis. Gavin Central Elementary School (Pre-K–4) is led by principal Carol Bennett. After 8th grade, students typically attend Grant Community High School in District 124.
History in brief: The district used to have three schools—Central, North, and South. Gavin Central was rebuilt in 1996. In 2004, roof problems led to moving some grades and the closure of Gavin North; the North property was sold to Lake Villa and is now a community center. Gavin Central was reopened to house Pre-K to 4, and Gavin South serves grades 5–8.
