Teenagent
Teenagent is a 1995 Polish graphic adventure game made by Metropolis Software House for Amiga and MS-DOS. It is a single-player game in which you control Mark Hopper, a teenage boy who wants to become a secret agent. It was the first Polish game released on CD-ROM.
A revised edition titled Nowy Teenagent came out in 1996.
Story and setting:
Gold is vanishing across Poland, and the police hire a random person to investigate. They choose teenage Mark Hopper. The game is split into three sections: The Three Tasks (Mark must prove himself to the guards’ captain), The Village (he explores a village to gain access to the villain’s mansion), and The Mansion (he stops the villain’s plan).
Development and impact:
Metropolis Software’s peers had moved to 8-bit games, freeing the company to focus on PC titles. The team hoped Teenagent would follow Tajemnica Statuetki’s success and reach players both in Poland and abroad. Mark Hopper is played by the creator’s younger brother, and the story was inspired by the film If Looks Could Kill (1991).
Release details:
The Three Tasks was originally released as shareware, with the other sections available after registering. It was later released as freeware. Teenagent was later added to Good Old Games, becoming the site’s 100th game and one of its thirteen free titles.
Reception and legacy:
The game earned a Silver Award from UK magazine PC Format. Its marketing campaign emphasized the link to Tajemnica Statuetki and helped boost its profile in Poland and beyond. The soundtrack was composed by Radek Szamrej (RST). In 2010, a fan tribute album of the game’s music was released by OverClocked ReMix.
