Gaspare Manos is an Italian painter and sculptor whose work sits between abstraction and figuration. Born on July 6, 1968, in Bangkok to a United Nations diplomat father and Italian mother Elena Luxardo, he spent his early years across Asia and Africa. He lived in Nairobi from 1972 to 1982, where African colors and rhythms influenced his art, and later lived in Geneva, Athens, and Cambridge before moving to London in 1987 to study at the University of London and the London School of Economics, earning a BA in 1990 and a PhD in 1996. His PhD in phenomenology and his interest in the urban world shape much of his work.

Manos spent many years in London, traveling across Europe and meeting artists such as Anselm Kiefer and Cy Twombly. He has painted portraits of contemporary figures, including Rostropovich and members of the Rolling Stones. His work was shown in Minsk in 2013 at the Museum of Modern Fine Art, and at URBIS in Venice in 2008. His paintings often explore memory, space, and place, with a focus on urban landscapes and precise portraits.

In sculpture, Manos uses found materials to create pieces that are often monochrome and intimate. The works evoke African relics or shamanistic objects, reflecting his travels. His art is influenced by his broader studies of memory and knowledge.

He is married to lawyer Sarah Mosole and has four children: Sofia, Giulia, Orso-Augusto, and Alma-Augusta. He divides his time between London and Venice and has served as a juror for Belarus Art Salons in Minsk in 2015, 2017, and 2018. GQ Magazine Japan named him one of its Men of the Year in 2013.
