Operation Dexterity was an Allied campaign in the South West Pacific during World War II, aimed at driving Japan off New Britain as part of the broader Cartwheel plan to isolate Rabaul and move toward the Philippines. From December 15, 1943, to March 9, 1944, American and Australian forces (about 19,000 troops) fought about 10,500 Japanese defenders and won.
