Gao Heng (philologist)
Gao Heng (July 29, 1900 – February 2, 1986) was a Chinese philologist and paleographer who studied ancient Chinese texts. He is known for helping interpret the I Ching in a modern way and, in the 1970s, published a new translation of the ancient political treatise Book of Lord Shang with his own commentary.
Born in Shuangyang County, Jilin Province, Gao became a professor at Shandong University in 1953. From 1957 he also served as a part-time fellow at the Institute of Philosophy of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1967, he moved to Beijing to focus on research in ancient and classical literature.
