CMLL 76th Anniversary Show
CMLL 76th Anniversary Show
The Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) held its 76th Anniversary Show on September 18, 2009, at Arena México in Mexico City, drawing about 18,000 fans. This event celebrates CMLL’s founding in 1933 (originally as EMLL) and is the promotion’s biggest show of the year, often called the “Super Bowl” of lucha libre. The anniversary shows are the oldest and longest-running yearly wrestling events, with the first taking place in 1934. Arena México has been the main venue since 1956.
The main event was a Lucha de Apuestas, mask vs. hair match between Místico and Negro Casas, with Místico emerging victorious. The show also featured an eight-man tag team match between Team Mexico and Team Japan. Team Mexico consisted of Último Guerrero, Atlantis, Black Warrior, and Héctor Garza. Shocker was originally slated for the team but was quietly replaced by Atlantis before the event. Team Japan included Jushin Thunder Liger, No Limit (Yujiro and Naito), and Okumura.
In addition, the card included three regular six-man tag team matches, a six-man Mini-Estrella match, and a women's tag team match. CMLL traditionally holds its major events on Friday nights as part of the Super Viernes lineup.
