The GWR 3511 class were standard‑gauge steam locomotives with a 2‑4‑0T wheel arrangement, designed by William Dean for the Great Western Railway. Built at Swindon in 1885, they were the last ten engines of Lot 64, numbered 1016–1025. They were coal‑fired and had two inside cylinders (17 in × 26 in) with Stephenson valve gear. The wheels ran on a gauge of 4 ft 8+1/2 in, with a 3 ft 7 in leading wheel and 5 ft 1 in driving wheels, and a wheelbase of about 17 ft. They were originally built with condensing equipment to work through the Severn Tunnel, but the condensing gear was removed when ventilation improved. In 1894–95 they were rebuilt as 2‑4‑0 tender locomotives of the 3201 class (as were the 3501 class).
