GURPS Celtic Myth
GURPS Celtic Myth is a 1995 softcover supplement for the GURPS role-playing game from Steve Jackson Games. It was written by Ken Walton and Jo Walton and is meant to help a game referee run a campaign set in Iron Age Celtic lands like ancient Ireland or Scotland.
The book has two parts. The first gives an overview of Celtic history and literature. The second, called Celtic Myth, explains how to weave ancient magic into a campaign. It features ideas like shapeshifter duels, enchanted Snakestone beads, and letter spells using Ogham runes.
Reception was mixed but positive. In Arcane (March 1996), Dan Joyce enjoyed it and called it “cracking stuff” for a Celtic campaign, giving it 8 out of 10. In Dragon (July 1996), Rick Swan said the history section reads like a college text, but the magic section is lively. He noted that creating a full Celtic campaign is a lot of work and suggested that using the druidic material in other settings, such as GURPS Camelot or GURPS Imperial Rome, could be very interesting.
