Funky Monkey (film)
Funky Monkey is a 2004 family comedy directed by Harry Basil and starring Matthew Modine, Roma Downey, and Seth Adkins. The story follows Alec McCall, a spy and the caretaker of a highly gifted chimpanzee named Clements, who team up with a 13-year-old genius boy named Michael Dean to stop a cruel plan to use chimps for dangerous experiments.
When McCall discovers his boss Flick wants to conduct experiments to turn chimps into soldiers, he and Clements go on the run to McCall’s hometown. There they meet Michael, who wants to impress a girl by joining his high school football team. The coach lets him play if he helps the team with their grades.
Flick’s henchmen try to capture Clements, and Flick himself breaks in to take them to a lab where a doctor would perform the experiments. McCall rescues them, and they head to the Homecoming football game. The villains arrive dressed as players to get Clements, but Clements and McCall join the team to stop Flick. Michael helps the team win, and Flick is arrested for animal cruelty.
The film had a budget of about $30 million and was released direct-to-video in 2004.
