Nick Merkley
Nick Merkley (born May 23, 1997) is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward who currently plays in the Kontinental Hockey League for the Shanghai Dragons. A right winger who shoots right, he is 5 ft 11 in tall and weighs 191 pounds. Merkley was a top prospect who was drafted 30th overall by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
Merkley starred for the Kelowna Rockets in the WHL, earning the 2013-14 WHL Rookie of the Year and posting 90 points in 72 games in 2014-15. He signed with the Coyotes in 2015 and made his NHL debut in December 2017. After time in the AHL and a stint in the 2018 AHL All-Star Classic, he was traded to the New Jersey Devils in December 2019 in the Taylor Hall trade. He later played for Ässät in Finland in 2020, was traded to the San Jose Sharks in July 2021, and then to the New York Rangers in March 2022. Merkley joined Dinamo Minsk in the KHL for the 2022-23 season, signed with Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg in 2024, and moved to the Shanghai Dragons in 2025. He won gold with Team Canada at the 2014 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.
