Frogs Gone Fishin'
Frogs Gone Fishin’ is an American rock band that started in 2005 in Nashville, Tennessee. It was formed by Trevor Jones and Andrew Portwood, who were both singer-songwriters and guitarists. The early lineup included Nashville students and Katrina evacuees, and the band played its first show at the 3 Crow Bar in East Nashville in October 2005. The original bass guitarist, Billy Twibell, died in a car accident in May 2006, and Trevor Jones briefly returned to New Orleans.
In 2007 Portwood and Jones rejoined with Mark Levy (drums) and Steve Rogers (bass). The band began writing and rehearsing in a Nashville loft and signed with Oh/Ya Records. They moved to Colorado in 2008 to work on their music and started touring more widely.
Tell Me True, Frogs Gone Fishin’s debut album, was recorded in 2007 and released on June 17, 2008 on Oh/Ya Records. The album helped them gain some radio play, with songs like Mexico and Life in a Magazine.
In 2009 the band signed with Mountain Size Records, a Colorado-based label, and began work on their second album, Actual Natural. The album was released on May 8, 2010. The single “Actual Natural” was featured on Relix Magazine’s CD sampler, and two music videos were directed for the band by Travis Milloy during this period.
Drummer changes occurred after the Actual Natural tours: Dax Hunter joined to replace Mark Levy, then Jeff Jani became the drummer in 2011. Steve Rogers left the group in 2011, and Alex Scott joined as the full-time bassist in December 2011. The band also sometimes performs with a horn section called The Horny Toads.
