Fritz Ihlau (August 28, 1909 – 1995) was a German composer. He also used the name Fred Langen, especially for his more rhythmically modern works. He was born in Hanover.

From 1930 to 1935 he studied music, literature and theatre at the Universities of Marburg and Munich, where he earned a PhD. He joined the Christian student group Marburger Wingolf. In music he studied counterpoint and composition with Hans Stieber. As a student, he gave concerts led by Otto Ebel von Sosen and made radio recordings under Karl List. He later completed training at the Tonmeisterschule in Frankfurt.

Ihlau worked as a music consultant and editor and for radio stations in Hanover and at Reichssender Königsberg. After World War II he worked as a freelance journalist in Traunstein, Upper Bavaria. In 1950 he moved to WDR in Cologne as a Tonmeister and in 1961 became the main program designer. He retired in 1975 but continued composing.

His works include an operetta, a ballet, church music, songs, choral works and pieces for orchestra.
