Frisco Kid
Frisco Kid is a 1935 Warner Bros. Western starring James Cagney and Margaret Lindsay, directed by Lloyd Bacon. Set in San Francisco in the 1850s, it follows Bat Morgan, a sailor who lands on the Barbary Coast and builds power by running gambling and vice with the corrupt boss Jim Daley. He falls for journalist Jean Barrat, daughter of a crusading editor, but his life of crime makes romance impossible. After a judge is killed by gambler Paul Morra, a mob forms; Bat solves the crisis by releasing Morra to settle a debt, Ford is murdered by Daley, and Morra and Daley are later hanged by vigilanties. Bat tries to stop the violence, is shot, and captured; Jean saves him from hanging, and he goes free on her parole.
