French wire

Content sourced from Wikipedia, licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0.

French wire (also called bullion or gimp) is a thin coil of silver- or gold-filled wire used to conceal the beading thread near crimps and clasps. It gives jewelry a professional finish and helps protect and strengthen the ends of the beadwork. A cheaper plated version is also common and popular with hobbyists for seed-bead and knotted-pearl projects.
