French Mills, also known as French's Mills, was a small place in Guilderland Center, New York. It began as a sawmill and, in 1795, started making clothes under owner Peter K. Broek. Abel French bought it in 1800, and it became a tavern run by Jacob Aker that same year. It is not related to the French Mills that U.S. forces retired to after the Battle of Crysler's Farm in the War of 1812. A notable person from French Mills is James H. Blessing, born there, who later served as mayor of Albany from 1900 to 1901.
