Franziska Rochat-Moser
Franziska Rochat-Moser (17 August 1966 – 7 March 2002) was a Swiss long-distance runner. She competed for Switzerland at two Summer Olympics, beginning in 1992, and won the 1997 New York City Marathon. She was a lawyer by profession and was married to Philippe Rochat, a renowned Swiss chef and restaurant owner. She retired from running in 2001 because of a recurring hip injury. In 2002, while ski mountaineering with friends in the Swiss Alps, she was caught in a slab avalanche, dragged 600 meters, and died from her injuries the next day at age 35.
