Joey Fanfarelli
Joey R. Fanfarelli is an American professor at Marist College in New York, where he works in the School of Communication and the Arts. He has published studies and articles on gamification, digital badges, games, and online learning.
He earned a PhD (2014) and MS (2012) in Modeling and Simulation, and a BS (2009) in Psychology from the University of Central Florida. He served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida from 2015 to 2019, then became an Associate Professor at Marist College in 2019.
Fanfarelli has worked on simulation and training projects for partners including the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and NASA. He holds a patent for an automated system that simulates human judgement when comparing two digital images, which supports simulation-based training and can help predict when a person will notice a difference between two similar images.
His research centers on gamification, digital badges, games, and online learning.
