Hebeloma hiemale

Hebeloma hiemale is a poisonous mushroom in the Hymenogastraceae family. It has a pale brownish to buff cap that is convex or slightly raised in the center (umbonate) and about 1.5–5 cm across. The stem is about 3–8 cm long and up to 1.5 cm thick. The gills are sinuate (notched where they attach to the stem) and start pale, turning brown as the mushroom ages. The spore print is brown. It smells slightly radish-like. Hebeloma hiemale forms a mycorrhizal relationship with trees, living with both conifers and hardwoods. It fruits from spring through fall, and sometimes into winter if the weather is warm enough.
