Fowler, Indiana
Fowler is a small town in Center Township, Benton County, Indiana, and serves as the county seat. It is part of the Lafayette metropolitan area. The population was 2,337 in 2020.
Fowler was laid out by Moses and Eliza Fowler on October 26, 1872. It grew quickly and became the county seat in 1874, then was incorporated in 1875. The town started with a few homes and businesses and expanded over the years with shops, grain elevators, and services. Today, Fowler is known for landmarks on the National Register of Historic Places, including the Benton County Courthouse, Fowler Theatre, and Fraser & Isham Law Office. The Fowler Ridge Wind Farm is another notable site in the area.
Geography and transport: Fowler covers about 1.41 square miles, almost all land. Major roads include U.S. Route 52 and Indiana State Roads 18 and 55, with U.S. Route 41 nearby. The town sits in Center Township within Benton County.
Education and services: Fowler is in the Benton Community School Corporation, with Benton Central Junior-Senior High School as the high school. Fowler Elementary School merged into Prairie Crossing Elementary in 2006. The Benton County Public Library serves the community.
